Submissions and publication rights

Articles, reviews and interviews are accepted in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French and Italian, by up to two authors (reviews and interviews must have only one author) who have at least the title of master. No fees for submissions or publications are charged. It is not for the magazine to indulge the authors' ideas, and its only requirement is that the article follows the magazine’s guidelines. However, opinions that violate human rights and ethical principles will be pointed out by the referees and the submissions will possibly be rejected. The publication may be rejected by decision of the Editorial Committee with the assistance of the Editorial Board and by the ad hoc reviewers. This decision may or may not be justified for the authors.

The submitted manuscript should not be evaluated by any other journal while it is being analyzed by this journal. The authors own the copyright and grant to the Escripturas the right of original publication, with the work simultaneously licensed under the Creative Commons, to the character Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0). Only original works in the languages suggested in the submission rules are accepted (works that have already been published may be accepted for publication in another language). The articles can be published later as book chapters or as articles in another language (“non-exclusive” publication), as long as reference is made to the original publication of Escripturas journal.

Peer review, double-blind, ad hoc

Submissions sent to Escripturas journal (articles, reviews, translations, interviews) will be submitted to an initial evaluation by the Editorial Committee to find out if they meet the submission rules and, especially, if the theme is aligned with the scope of the magazine. Submissions that do not meet these conditions will not be sent to referees.

All submissions received will be analyzed by at least two members of the Editorial Board or ad hoc reviewers, using the system known as double-blind. These, according to the criteria set out in the referee form (provided below), may refuse, suggest modifications or approve the publication of the articles. In the case of a favorable and an unfavorable opinion, the text will be submitted to a third reviewer.

Opinions are confidential; will serve as a basis for the editorial decision, with the Editorial Committee having the right to publish or reject submitted submissions.

The evaluation process is subject to the publication schedule of the eventual number of the magazine and the availability of reviewers. The deadlines granted to the referees will be notified by e-mail, always prioritizing the publication schedule of the numbers. The deadline for authors to respond to the referees' suggestions is two weeks. At the end, the authors must send the final version for publication and, in the same electronic mail, a separate document (in pdf) that presents the changes made to the text.

Antiplagiarism policy

The Escripturas journal publishes only original works and only starts the process of evaluating the submissions if it is sent together with the Originality Term (see the Publishing Rules). The texts are submitted to plagiarism detection software by the Editorial Board. If any form of plagiarism is identified, the Editorial Board could contact the author for explanations or may reject the submission immediately. The reviewers are also instructed to identify forms of plagiarism and, when it is found, the same procedure is taken.

This editorial policy understands as plagiarism: a) presenting works by other authors as yours; b) adopt words or ideas of other authors without due recognition; c) do not use quotation marks in a literal quote; d) paraphrase from a source without mentioning it; e) abusive paraphrase, even if the source is mentioned.

If there is proof of any type of plagiarism in a text already published, the Editorial Bourd will contact the author. If the answer is not satisfactory, the text will be removed from the system (website) and the owner vehicle and the true author will be notified. The authors assume the consequences of non-compliance with the obligations indicated in this editorial policy.

Free access policy

Escripturas journal guarantees free access to its publications in order to democratize scientific knowledge. Authors who publish in this magazine retain copyright on their productions. Sharing of publications is encouraged on a non-profit basis, by various means, as long as credit is given to the original publication for this journal.

Proposals for coordinating dossiers

Escripturas journal receives proposals for the organization of thematic dossiers between the months of January and March. The Editorial Committee proposes the publication of at least one dossier per year, preferably referring to the second semester of each year.

Proposals must be in History, and may be related to other areas that have this dialogue being appreciated historiographically.

The proposer(s) must present the summarized curriculum, the title of the proposal, a brief introduction to the topic, profile of expected contributions, justification and an image that can be used for the call (with reference). Proposals may be sent by researchers from foreign institutions, provided that all the work has correspondence in Portuguese. The document must be sent in pdf format, dated and signed, to the e-mail revistaescripturas@gmail.com (we do not require forms templates).

It will be up to the organizers: to elaborate strategies for the dissemination of calls and collection of articles; analyze whether the submissions are adequate to the journal's editorial policy; select ad hoc referees who have a profile with the theme and forward the submissions (in the double-blind system); filling in the data regarding the procedures for contributions; prepare the texts of the calls for articles and presentation of the journal number.

From the selection: proposals coordinated by up to two researchers, with a doctorate degree, linked to different institutions and from different regions will be prioritized. All submitted proposals will be evaluated, however. The choice will be made by the journal's Editorial Board.
